PHP
No 9: PHP is worth $124,475
The incredibly popular web language PHP appeared in 5% of the job listings that Paysa scanned. Generally PHP gets a bad wrap due to “beginner” level developers that create open source or hobby projects with little to no security in mind. This creates value in openings from two directions, skilled PHP developers to write programs, & skilled PHP developers with a security mind set to scan, penetration test, & ultimately cleanup existing infrastructure.

Now this result perplexes me a bit. While SQL appeared in 13% of the job listings Paysa scanned, I’m not sure if they are referring to the idea of SQL, or more specifically MSSQL (Microsoft SQL server), MySql (Open Source/Java/Oracle SQL), or something modern like a couchdb/nosql/sqlite. What I can be sure of, is a combination of the major ones previously listed can go a long way to landing a higher paying job.

A specific SQL, PL/Sql, appeared in 5% of the job listings Paysa scanned.
Pl/Sql is Oracle’s programming language extension for the Oracle database. Not to be confused with Oracle’s opensource MySql database language, Pl/Sql is the most popular database of its kind. That alone makes sense that this would be a skill that’s highly in demand.
